No calls yet to Ugandan embassy

By Carl Bialik

There were no reports to the Ugandan embassy in Washington, DC of any of the approximately forty to fifty thousand Ugandans living in the United States having been harmed in Tuesday’s terrorist attacks on the United States, as of Thursday morning. "No Ugandans have called us yet," a source at the embassy told The Monitor. "We usually know if there is a problem."

People are supposed to register with the nearest embassy when living in a foreign country, but most Ugandans in the U.S. have not registered. The source added that the embassy typically repatriates the remains of any Ugandans who die in the U.S.

The source described the atmosphere at the embassy as "business as usual, but with a lot of caution." Approximately an hour before the source spoke to The Monitor, Washington television reported that American University had been evacuated because of a bomb threat, one of hundreds of false terrorism threats putting those in the U.S. on edge Thursday. American University is barely five kilometers from the Ugandan embassy in the Northwest section of Washington.
